1. The story
Mass Effect: Andromeda will be located in the Andromeda galaxy, the largest Local Group galaxy, specifically in the Helejos Gather, where humanity and other Milky Way races are the guests or, if wills, aliens. Humanity and several other Milky Way races (the presence of asari, salarian, turian and krogan) are part of the Andromeda Initiative. The project started in 2176. In 2185, after the construction of four Ark, that is ships transporting representatives of several races, and the main commanding unit called Nexus – began a 600-year journey to the Andromeda Galaxy. All characters participating in the expedition for six centuries were in cryostasis and have no idea about the events of Mass Effect 3, and therefore of the Reapers and the outcome of the war with them.
With the races of the Andromeda Galaxy we will also develop relationships. Depending on the various factors, we will measure towards diplomatic or forceful solutions. Interestingly, the order of tasks, our actions, contacts, and the like will affect not only the reputation of the protagonist, but will also reflect the opinion of the whole human race in the new galaxy. The storyline will focus not only on the individual characters, but also on the challenges of surviving in a completely new environment.
1.1. The main character
Players will reincarnate in any gender and will acquire a completely new, though not very experienced, team with various relationships, including numerous romances. Relations with the companions will also to some extent depend on the changed dialogue system, abandoning the existing morality system. The game will go away from evaluating our choices and will often set us up before the need to choose between evil and evil.
The name of the main character will sound Ryder, which – like Shepard – is a reference to a true personality related to space travel. In this case, it is probably Sally Ride – the first American in space. It is worth mentioning that the male and female versions of the protagonists will appear simultaneously in the game world, because they are siblings (their default names are Sarah and Scott). Alec Ryder, the father of the above two, will also appear in the production.
The Andromeda protagonist will be the pioneer, the person who is supposed to find a new home for humanity. Each of the Ark has its Pioneer. People pioneers come from Hyperion ship.
The game is going away from the standalone rating of our character, so in the series will disappear the known morality system – instead of heading towards the idealist or renegade, players will be given the opportunity to agree or not with his interlocutor. Individual dialogue options and their results will not be obvious (additionally, you can remove the auxiliary icons), and the reception of the protagonist will also depend on general expression, including the tone of the voice. On the other hand, the possibility of interrupting the interlocutor’s / his / her speech will be returned for a specific purpose.
Andromeda will return loyalty missions. These quests will not be linked to the main thread, and will take place in completely unique, otherwise inaccurate locations designed for a particular comrade. The game will also focus on developing relationships similar to those from the addition of the Citadel to Mass Effect 3 or the “social” quests of the same production. The player must also consider actions and words as they can introduce various tensions within the team.
Currently known comrades are:
Cora Harper (man) – starter companion in rank of lieutenant, present in team since first visit to Nexus. Cora is a biotech who trained with Asari mothers and served four years with asari commandos. No wonder it sticks to military discipline and regulations rigidly. It is unknown whether her name is merely a coincidence or a result of the relationship with the Illusion Man.
Drack (kroganin) – a crooked veteran, an old and very experienced. He came to Andromeda long before the Ryder family.
Liam (man) – second, next to Cory, starter companion protagonist. Liam was a former police officer, probably British, as well as a security and crisis specialist. His temperament was described as “youthful, enthusiastic and idealistic”. Liam is an optimist, though very easy to upset him.
PeeBee (asari) – Asari, which often appears in the trailer for the game. We will meet her in the early stages of the game. PeeBee (who is just a nickname) has a bit of a life in the new galaxy and came to Andromeda on the main ship Nexus, though she left it to explore alone. He is intelligent and full of energy and enthusiasm, treating a great expedition as a fun. It is a type of free spirit who likes to learn new civilizations.
Vetra (turians) – a companion we also know on Nexus. He is attached to the family.
1.3. Other independent characters
Alec Ryder – Hyperion pioneer, father of Scott and Sarah Ryder. Alec is a N7-level soldier and a talented scientist who was his first time member of the first research group sent for Charon Relay, long considered by Earth to be Pluto’s moon.
Archont – probably the main antagonist in Mass Effect: Andromeda. Archon is a kettle. You can see it on this trailer.
Kallo Jath – Salvatorian pilot of the Tempest and one of his constructors, familiar with the unit as his own pocket.
SAM (Adaptive Matrix Simulation) – deck of artificial intelligence designed by Alek Ryder. Unlike the EDI of Normandy, SAM receives all the stimuli of Pioneer and his entire team with special neuroimaging. SAM offers expanded situational orientation, troubleshooting help, and tactical improvements.
Lexi T’Perro – Tempest ship’s onboard physician. He is a representative of asari.
Angels – one of the intelligent races inhabiting the Andromeda Galaxy. Its representatives can be seen on this trailer.
The Kettos – our main opponents in Andromeda, commanded by enigmatic Archont. You can see them. On this movie or trailer posted on the occasion of N7 Day 2016.
Abandoned – a species rather uninterested in galactic buoys. It is a highly advanced breed, responsible for creating vaults / crypts that we will explore in search of lost knowledge and technology.
Mass Effect: Andromeda will be a game of the same type as the first three, which is a combination of the genre of a third-person shooter from RPG. In the character development system, we do not realize the limit of maximum experience and we will develop more than three skills.
In the game we will acquire various types of schemes and on the basis of their production, such as weapons and ammunition. At the moment it is known that the Andromedian craft system will be very different from that of the Dragon Age: Inquisition.
The game will be powered by the Frostbite engine, used in the Battlefield series as well as in the Dragon Age: Inquisition game, to provide a unique visual experience during the game. There are also opportunities for the creation of Mass Effect VR, although it is not quite clear what exactly this project would be. Andromeda will set similar hardware requirements for Star Wars: Battlefront.
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro versions will run at 30 frames per second, probably the same limitation of the Xboksa One (PCs naturally have no limits in this regard). Sony’s console will offer a resolution of 1080p, and the competing device will “pull” 900p. Significantly, in the game heavily limited will significantly reduce the number of loading screens – for example: Tempest ship we have to visit smoothly, without stopping the game of data acquisition.
The key to the game is the exploration of individual planets using the Nomad vehicle, the successor to Mako, known from the first Mass Effect. Our space ship, in turn, will be Tempest. The world presented Andromeda has, however, no open, sandbox structure. In turn the map of the virtual world will be moved into the third dimension.
On the available planets we will be able to devote ourselves to a series of activities. The first is the infiltration of hostile bases that will be found on most planets – they will be missions with their own storyline and probably at least partially sneaky. The second is the fight with exceptionally powerful bosses, whose defeat will guarantee us access to unique heroes. The third element is scanning alien technologies and fauna and flora, which in addition to the development of the encyclopedia will provide access to eg better craft materials. Recent activities include exploring and securing dump zones that will allow us to exchange team members and equipment, as well as discover interesting places in the area and make a quick trip. With all these activities we must also consider environmental risks.
